What Is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It is a non-surgical treatment that delivers focused ultrasound energy to precise depths beneath the skin — including the deep foundational layer (the SMAS) traditionally addressed only by surgical facelifts.

The thermal energy creates controlled coagulation points that trigger your body's natural collagen renewal. Results develop gradually over 3–6 months and can last 12–18 months from a single treatment.

What Is RF Skin Tightening?

RF (radiofrequency) skin tightening uses a handpiece moved over the skin to deliver controlled heat energy to the dermis. This heat stimulates collagen and elastin production, gradually firming and smoothing the skin.

RF is comfortable, has no downtime, and is ideal for early signs of ageing and ongoing maintenance. A course of 4–6 weekly sessions is typically recommended, with maintenance every 6–8 weeks.

Key Differences

| Feature | HIFU | RF Skin Tightening | |---------|------|-------------------| | Depth | Deep (including SMAS layer) | Shallow to medium (dermis) | | Sessions | Usually 1 treatment | Course of 4–6 sessions | | Results timeline | 3–6 months | Immediate + ongoing | | Duration of results | 12–18 months | Maintained with top-ups | | Best for | Moderate laxity, lifting | Early ageing, maintenance | | Downtime | None | None |

Which One Is Right for You?

Choose HIFU if you have mild to moderate skin laxity and want a more pronounced lifting effect in a single treatment. HIFU is ideal for softening jawlines, lifting brows and tightening the neck.

Choose RF if you have early signs of ageing, fine lines or dull skin tone and prefer a gradual, maintenance-focused approach. RF is also excellent for maintaining HIFU results.

Combine both if you want comprehensive tightening — HIFU for deep lifting and RF for ongoing collagen stimulation.
