Why preparation matters

A chemical peel resurfaces the skin by removing the outermost layers, prompting renewal underneath. How well your skin tolerates and responds to that process depends heavily on how you prepare it in the days beforehand.

Good preparation reduces the risk of irritation, supports an even result and shortens recovery. Here's how to get your skin ready.

One to two weeks before

Pause active ingredients

Stop using retinoids (retinol, retinal, prescription retinoids), exfoliating acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic) and any strong brightening actives about five to seven days before your appointment. These increase skin sensitivity and can intensify a peel's effect.

Avoid other treatments

Skip waxing, threading, depilatory creams and any in-clinic treatments (like microdermabrasion or laser) on the treatment area for at least a week beforehand.

Three days before

Keep it gentle

Cleanse with a gentle, non-foaming cleanser and moisturise as usual. Don't introduce new products. If you've been prescribed a pre-peel preparation routine by Dafni, follow it exactly.

Avoid sun exposure

UV exposure sensitises the skin. Stay out of direct sun and wear SPF 50+ daily; a sunburned area cannot be safely peeled.

The day of your appointment

  • Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup, sunscreen and skincare unless advised otherwise
  • Don't shave the treatment area on the day
  • Mention any new medications or skin changes to Dafni before we begin

After your peel

How you care for your skin after a peel is just as important as preparation. Key principles:

  • Use a gentle cleanser and hydrating moisturiser
  • Apply SPF 50+ every morning without fail
  • Avoid picking or peeling flaking skin
  • Pause actives until Dafni confirms it's safe to resume
  • Keep skin well hydrated

Most clients experience mild flaking over a few days, though deeper peels have a longer recovery. Dafni will give you a personalised aftercare plan.
