Why non-surgical tightening has grown in popularity

Skin laxity, the softening and sagging that comes with age, is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment. Surgical lifting remains the most dramatic option, but non-surgical technologies now offer meaningful, natural-looking improvement with no downtime, incisions or recovery period.

The key is understanding what each technology does and where it works best.

How skin tightening actually works

Non-surgical tightening works by delivering controlled energy to specific depths of the skin. This energy gently heats the tissue, triggering a natural healing response that stimulates new collagen. As collagen remodels over the following weeks and months, the skin gradually firms, tightens and lifts.

Two main technologies dominate: HIFU and radiofrequency.

HIFU: focused ultrasound for lifting

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) delivers focused ultrasound energy to precise depths, including the deeper foundational layers a surgical lift addresses. By targeting these layers, HIFU can create a lifting effect, not just surface firming.

We use HIFU across several areas:

Results develop gradually, with initial tightening around four weeks and peak results at three to six months. A single treatment often lasts 12 to 18 months.

Radiofrequency: surface firming and collagen support

Radiofrequency (RF) treatments deliver heat to the dermis to stimulate collagen and elastin. RF is excellent for firming, smoothing fine lines and refining texture, often as a course of sessions with ongoing maintenance.

Because RF works more superficially than HIFU, it's well suited to earlier signs of ageing and to maintaining results between HIFU treatments.

Choosing between them

The right choice depends on the concern:

  • Deeper laxity and lifting: HIFU
  • Early laxity, texture and maintenance: RF
  • Combined laxity and texture: A layered approach

Other factors, including skin thickness, medical history and expectations, also matter. This is why an in-person assessment is essential.

Setting realistic expectations

Non-surgical tightening offers significant, natural-looking improvement, but it doesn't replicate surgery. The results are gradual and cumulative, and many people benefit from a course of treatments plus maintenance. Dafni will be open about what's achievable for your skin.

The first step

A consultation lets Dafni assess your laxity, discuss your goals and design a tightening plan using the right technology, or combination, for you. Often the best results come from layering HIFU and RF over a tailored timeline.
